The journey towards creating an iconic new museum and art gallery in Swindon is underway.

The purpose-built, landmark building next to the Wyvern Theatre will bring a vibrant heart to the town, and kick-start the rich new cultural quarter.

It will also be a catalyst for economic growth. There is compelling evidence that when a strong cultural facility is built in a town centre it delivers a significant economic boost to the entire town or city.

Swindon’s new museum and art gallery will be owned by the people of Swindon – to be enjoyed every one of them. It won’t be a stuffy, elite space but will have something for all – whether that’s an art exhibition, a fun and educational day out for children and families, or a space to meet friends for a coffee or entertain clients.

It will also house Swindon’s exceptional collections of modern art and ceramics – and allow more of them to be shared with more people. And through the archaeological collection it will tell Swindon’s rich history from prehistory to the modern day.

Swindon Museum and Art Gallery trustees and its director, who are driving this project, bring a combination of expertise in commerce, communities, curation, art, science, education and retail that will ensure the project is financially viable and sustainable in the long term. The museum, once built, will be run by a charitable trust.
